The Right Job

Posted By bayli on 2008-05-14 21:19

I am greatly confused. I am 16 and wondering what job is right for me. As I am reading the Harmonic Wealth I understand that altough money isn't every thing you need to have financial abundance. You need to have enough money so as to not worry about financial issues and be able to focus on harmonizing your life. To do that you are to do what you love. For instance what if you love to teach? How are you suppose to create financial abundance on a teachers salary. Now don't tell me that I am supposed to be a teacher because thats not what I want to do. I am struggling between nursing (i love taking care of people), accounting (i love numbers) and business (i love that in business you have the opportunity to to take an idea and run with it in whatever direction that pleases you). I just used the teaching example because we need teachers, people love to teach but how are they supposed to achieve harmonic wealth without that financial abundance? Everyone should be able to achieve harmonic wealth. What can people like that do to make this possible?

The right job

Bayli,

I applaude you for the great question.  At this time in your life it is exciting to see you ask such a question.  One of your question is how does a teacher achieve harmonic wealth without financial abundance.  I beleive teachers can achieve financial abundance if that is what they desire.  Some of the worlds greatest people are educators.  Now I know we do not pay teachers well; however, they can go outside of the box and achieve financial abundance. They can write a book, do seminars, and teach what they are passionate about and begin to explore how they can earn an income outside of their classrooms with their teachings.   The path to financial abundance can reveal itself to them as they begin to think of ways to do what they love and earn at the same time.

I personally think it is a question of where your focus is.  Money is just a tool which helps us live the life we desire.

If you really want to have a lot of money, then put all your energy into making a lot of money.  But I would ask you to consider why you want the money - what is it you want to do with the money, what will the money do for you in your life?  And then focus on that instead.  Money is a 'how' not a 'why'.

Focus on what you truly want in life and if you need money, it will come to you.  I am not monetarily rich by any stretch of the imagination - I currently am a student and live off money borrowed from my government.  But I have everything I want and need.  I live in a great apartment, I have wonderful food to eat, I have fantastic friends, I am learning who I am and what I want from life, I am pursuing a career I am passionate about and has a positive impact on people's lives... what more could I possibly want?  I could go on some big chase after dollars, but what would be the point?  I am happy right now.

The point I am making is that money should never be an end in and of itself - it is only ever a means.  Figure out what your 'end' is, what truly ignites your passion, and follow that.  If money is necesary, it will come.

Thank you

Thanks Emily and David. You both really helped me out. David, thanks for taking the time to put down what i already knew in different words. It means the world to me. I was really having difficulties with this. Sometimes you just need to see something in a different light. What you said really clicked. I keep putting limitations on what I and other people can do. Thanks for making me wake up. And Emily again thanks. Again, you put what I already knew in different words. I knew that money wasn't everything but you need it to get to your end. I kept focusing on the money and not the end. Thanks for making me wake up

Thanks to you both.

Some life advice from a guy who was in that position

Posted By Neal Morados on 2008-05-23 23:36

Hey, what's up? At one point, I was a young chap just like yourself. I've always been a very introspective person by nature. I always love giving to others and helping in a way that I can. Harmonic Wealth has given me a positive re-inforcement on what I want out of my life and I'm deeply satisfied with the way the book was written. Also, the on-line resources are great as well.

I have friends who tell me that there is no such thing as the pefect job. As my friends and I have defined it, the perfect job is one you like going to and uses your best attributes to its fullest. Most of the time, we get the disagreement on the first one. However, I believe that the perfect job is one which uses your best attributes. For me, it's always about what you can give to the world and in turn, you get more out of what you give. What I did was write down what qualities I believe are the strongest and exploited them. I was a talented hip-hop dancer, a passionate producer, and I loved music. It was only natural for me to fall into my current role, which is DJ'ing, and I've been doing it since I was 21 (Quick Plug: www.myspace.com/djdarkdragon). Just sit down with yourself, meditate, and if that doesn't work, get a piece of paper and write qualities that are your strongest, and it could be a variety of things. It may sound dumb at first, but as someone from the Secret said, "How bad do you want change?" I'm working on getting a job as a stock broker as I love the stock market and investing, but I truly enjoy my life. I'm at a hard place right now since I just got laid off, but I know what to watch out for in my life.

If you truly enjoy your job, the money will follow. Just use the gifts that you were given, run with it, endure the hardships, work hard, eventually, you will get what you want.

Also, I know you barely know me, but if you ever want to talk to me about life advice, please feel free to e-mail me at TheDarkDragon@gmail.com. We are all brothers and sisters living in the same universe, why not start treatin' each other a little better.

Peace be the journey and practice acts of random kindness,

The Sub-Conscious Mind

Posted By Gary on 2008-05-24 22:35

Hi Balyi,

You might try NOT fixing your thoughts on one or two carrer choices, but asking your Sub-Conscious Mind,(Your DIRECT LINK to the Creator),"What is my TRUE pourpose in life that will make me happy and prosperous"? Keep asking the question, over and over again, until you get the answer. It may come to you in a dream, a chance book finding, or a friends words, but simply wait and watch for the answer. It will come. Believe It!

Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

10 percent

Posted By Gregg on 2008-10-12 20:20

read the motley fool books, there are a lot of cases out there where people live below there means, and invest 10 percent of what they make, to retire very wealthy, a librarian from texas made 18k a year and retired a millionaire by diligently investing her 10 percent, if you can't manage 1k a month you really cant expect to manage a million dollars, hence the reason why so many lottery winners are broke or worse a year later. and as for your career choice it would make perfect sense for you to start a home nursing business, take nursing in college and have business as your minor, in the coming years making house calls to boomers will be a wealthy way to live.
