What to do when your spouse doesn't understand all that you are learning..

Posted By Mara on 2008-09-01 08:56

I have been spending alot of time reading about the law of attraction, power of our thoughts, etc.. and now the Harmoic wealth movie, which I am so grateful for.. it seems as tough I keep attracting more and more into my life to study and each time I learn something new or it helps me more in some ways.. However what do we do when our spouses dont' get it.. They think we are wasting our time by reading and studying.. For example mine says today why are you reading this I dont get it what are you learning I dont' see any changes. Yes it is all new to me, I have made any huge changes that anyone can see but the changes within that I know have changed are amazing, but I am still learning how to apply it all.

What do we say to these people? How do you explain to others what it is you are studying, what you spend probably alot of your time on. In short what do you say to these people.. I know we are not supposed to change others but how do I do this when I feel like it's changeing me, helping me to grow, how do we still grow with are spouses or significant other, when they dont' want to grow or don't even try to understand?

Please any advice, I feel like we are drifting apart in a sense and then I feel like it's my fault because I am the one changing and growing within. I dont' want to have problems with my marriage. I just would love for him to be on the same page as me, willing to grow and learn.

THank you so much for any help!

Beware the Dream Stealers!!!

Posted By Gary on 2008-09-01 23:20

Hi Mara, I truely understand the delema that you are in right now. I have several people close to me, that just don't seem to "get it", when it comes to the Law of Attraction, and the psychology behind it all. All I can say is, "Beware the Dream Stealers".Don't let anyone steal your FIRE.  Just keep going the way you have been. The changes that you are experiencing on the inside will eventually start showing on the outside. And the people, like your husband, will eventually see it shining through. Remember, everyone is on the Path of Life, somewhere. Some people take longer to come up the Path, than others, but we are all on the Path. My best advise is for you to hand him your books, tell him that he is an intelligent man, and to read and study a bit for himself. Let him discover and prove it all for himself. Then, if he still doesn't "get it", then, realise that maybe it isn't his time yet. (You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink) (side note:: You could Intend him to "get it"........;')

But don't let him force you,in any way, of making your own self discoveries for personal growth. What goes on inside you is your business, and no one elses! That wouldn't be fair, to lay that guilt trip upon you.

Also, I learned (or should I say,am learning) that there comes a time to start studying so much, put the material down, and start putting your plans into action. Get ready for that,Mara. Then watch his eyes light up, when YOU start bringing in True Wealth into your life.

Best Wishes,

Gary

The Serenity Prayer

Whatever your take on God is, this says it all.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,

and the wisdom to know the difference.

The biggest reason why people in our lives 'reject' our growth is fear.

I finally had a conversation about this with my husband the other day. He finally confessed that he was afraid that I'd outgrow him.

Don't stop growing or learning because of someone elses fear/ insecurities. Explain it's something you want to do for you, and he may start to get curious (as mine did), and then he'll start to ask questions.

You can only improve you!

Mara - great question. While I don't have a spouse I don't have many people close to me that understand the whole harmonic wealth concept. I keep it to myself, unless I am around other JET members in the area, and just smile to myself when "outsiders" comment on how life seems to just "go my way". As James has pointed out before, you don't have to answer to anyone, and if you do, you can say "Just because I want to". Keep improving yourself!!! As Shaunna said, people are terrified of change and that may be your husband may share Shaunna's feelings!
